Battle Report – MSAN #2 – A

Following on Mission 1, End of March I had a good at Mission 2.. and not only failed but… There was a slight mistake when the Advent Calendar missions were released (for various reasons, you had a QR code and/or URL link to access that days rules/mission) originally, the Map shown for Mission 2 was in fact, just Mission 1’s map. It was corrected but in my files, I had both versions and didn’t notice it had been corrected. So at first I played Mission 2 with Mission 1’s map which… yeah.. wasn’t the best of ideas ^_^ I lost it anyway.. So I played again with the correct mission map.. though I can’t say if this made it easier for me. Lets find out as I’ll take up from the correct map version;

David was being an idiot and still patroling around the place when he heard more Goblins starting to approach. He knew that there was a strong lockable door on this floor and if he could lock it, it would buy his gnomie friends some time to get ready. If possible, he would lock it with the goblins on the opposite side from him, but if he had to, he would lock the door trapping both him and the goblins.

David has to go from his starting point, down the corridor in front, through the door to the open arch way, through that room to the door, through that door to the reinforced door, which he then has to lock, ideally from the other side but can be from the inside.

David decided to try to make a run for it first and try to get around without fighting the goblins too much.

(While he looks like it, he really stopped facing the other direction but I took the photo a bit early). He stopped 1 square short to keep some stamina back for defence.

But it wasn’t long before the first Goblin was able to come up and wack him one.. taking 2 points of endurance from him, not a great start. While he was dealing with this first one, 3 more started to come towards him. This left David with a choice.. there was no way he was going to get out of the face that he was going to be covered in Gobbos soon, with two points of attack against him. So he decided to just try to press forwards towards the door.

He decided to face towards a wall, with his back to the other wall, open the door to his side and attack as he could do this sideways. Attacking with an extra die due to stamina, the Gobbo had already used up his stamina in movement. Swinging his sword, he scored a great hit, doing 3 points of Damage.. However, with his 8 endurance due to being a goblin, Numba 3 took it in his stride.

The goblin coming up on his left, came up and knocked him prone. This wasn’t great a Numba 3 was still there and ready for a fresh attack.

As David couldn’t attack while laying down on the job, and Numba 3 was fresh and ready, he had 5 dice to roll, with no defence to deal with. And just like the goblin that he is, he just decided to kick the poor gnome, taking another point of endurance off him, putting him down to 3 left. The other goblins could do nothing but wait there turn.

David stood back up, and used 3 points of Stamina to swing at Numba 3 behind the door, and landed a strike, knocking 2 more points off him, leaving him with only 3 reminding endurance.

However, it was now the goblin’s turn.. with 2 fresh boys ready to attack, they did just that. First Numba 1 on his left, gave him a wack and was able to land a strike, taking 2 of the 3 reminding points off him. Numba 3 then decided to follow this up… and rolled a 6.. 3 points of damage.. David couldn’t defend against that (well, Numba 3 rolled two 4s, two 2s and a six, to David’s 4, 3, 1) and so the poor gnome was overwhelmed and taken out.

I then gave it another go with the only real difference being that one of the one of the gobbo’s roared at him, which I’m guessing sounds like a “Mew”. but in the end, played quite the same with some bad dice rolls by David.

So.. even with the updated Map, he didn’t spare too much better… I’m gonna have to double check the Gobbo’s movement though.. As in when they come to a wall after going through a door, do they ALWAYS roll to see which way they turn. While the two which started in the 5×3 room would just turn to face the enemy which they could see due to the torch light, the ones the move out of the big room, come to a corridor with no light and they can’t see the far door. while there is a wall to the left and front, being a goblin, would they roll to see if they turn to the left (and have to stop cause there is a wall there) or be smart enough to just follow the corridor down… this might matter in that it would help keep only 1 point of attack against the gnomes, more then two. Either way, I think I might give it another go but he might think about holding back so he only has goblins in front of him cause running in a small space with goblins front and back isn’t really a good move.

So after having to take a bit of a gap due to stupidity (not on my part), 15th April was another go at this one.. or three..

well.. the ideas were good. Nothing picture worthy but some interesting things
) I tried having the Goblins face each other at the start. This lead to a couple of things. two of the Goblins decided to go on a little tour of inspection as at first, they couldn’t see anything apart from empty room, so they just went forward. When they saw a door, they went to it and when they opened and went through, there was a wall so they rolled to see what direction to go, and if they turned around and found another wall, I just said they used a point of stamina to try to walk into that wall as long as they was nothing there which they could see. So queue a bit of kinda turning on the spot walking up a corridor, turning around, walking down a corridor. Goblins aren’t the smartest things around. All this really did though was mean instead of having a row of 4 in front of me, they were slightly slowed down until I got a row of 4.

) I decided that poor David would just stay still. While the first goblin out the door would still see him and attack, he only had 1 attacking at a time, and a good amount of stamina to roll for defence. Didn’t quite go to plan for him though. He did take out one of them once… but a mix of bad rolls and good rolls for the gobbo’s was able to keep him down.

Lets see if next time can be a bit more lucky ^_^;
