My Skaven Army – StormVermin
I’ve finally finished my Stormvermin regiment. It’s taken a while partly because I wanted some figures for it and they aren’t easy to source for a decent price.
In fact, I’m a little surprised it’s finished now. Not because of how long it’s taken but there were two figures I wanted to finish off the regiment. I got hold of one of them, I painted it up, went to update my database of what I got, what I want etc and.. huh.. that was number 20. Stormvermin have only 20 max in a unit. I will probably do some ‘spares’ and maybe a different type of Stormvermin (I’ll get to that in a bit), the unit was complete without that final figure which I thought I needed.

Not fantastic shots cause I’m not great, and my movement tray is designed for 25x25mm bases (which is why I changed my clanrat units to be 30 figures, cause that fits fine). But I can’t do that with Storm vermin. Lets have a look at this in a bit better detail

First, up we have the front row. This row is Colin Dixon metal Stormvermin command (champion/leader, Standard, Musican) witth two stormvermin troops. I think the one on the far left MIGHT be one where I had the figure but didn’t have the separate spear + hands, so I I used a plastic one which is why the hands are abit bigger but I can’t be 100% sure.. which kinda means I did a good job ^_^
Now, I might have shown a couple before when I started this unit but the Stormvermin are meant to be elite troops. So I tried to give them that look. They have a bit of a uniform with a red helmet, silver armour with a blue badge with a white ‘S’ (for Stormvermin). I think this really helps to highlight them as a special Elite troop. Also, most of these are dark grey furred as really, Stormvermin were made in 4th as a merger of the stormvermin and the Black Clanrats (which were.. kinda the same thing). Yep, if you check, Skaven are kinda really into fur colour to order their society. Not 100% though but on the whole, Black fur rats are stronger and thus used for Stormvermin and Elites, White fur rats are used as Seers etc. It’s not a 100% so you will get some ‘runts’ who aren’t good enough, or maybe some still learning the ropes or something but that’s the general rule.
Oh and the Banner is cloth print which I did using a skaven design mixed with a Chaos Star based on some images (of course, the Chaos Star was created by Michael Morecock and was one of the things the Citadel ‘borrowed’ from his works.

Okay, first four of these are Colin Dixon with the last one being Jes Goodwin’s ‘Glave’… if you have followed my Skaven posts, you will know my feel on this model but oh well.
with the Goodwin one, his Stormvermin had a pretty different armour type, more using mail then plate, so his collar is blue.

Okay, we have another mix of Colin Dixon and Jes Goodwin. Not all the Goodwin ones have a blue collar BUT the point is they do have a badge of some kind which is blue with the S logo. The plate mail ones can, of course, have a big shoulder plate like that, but others it’s a bit smaller but I think still work as giving a uniform elite look.

Right, now the final lot and you might notice the odd guy out. Again we have a mix of Colin Dixon and Jes Goodwin but.. yeah. That last guy is the latest one I picked up. One of two I wanted to get (and I think both are the same dollie) but I forgot about the red Helmet so he doesn’t have that. Also.. you will notice he has a shield. Well. He had a shield nub and I didn’t really want to remove it. A couple of reasons including that the pose didn’t make sense if you did remove it. So I decided to give him a shield but just ignore it mostly ^_^ in the way way some of my Screaming Bell clan rats don’t have shields when they do for the rules. The Shield is one I made up with a Horned Rat Icon put on it from some shield icons I got a bunch of.
Right so, Points. This is a unit of 20 Stormvermin with a Standard (double cost), a Musician (double cost) and a Champion. Plus I have given the units Halberds at 2 pts per model. This means 11.5 pts per figure, + 9.5 points for doubling the standard and another + 9.5 points for the Musican. This gives 237.5 points. There is also an extra 27 pts from the characters total for the Champion and another 4 points to give him the Halberd and light armour. This gives the unit a grand total of 268.5
Running Total:
Characters: 837pts
War Machines: 200pts
Monsters: 0pts
Regiments: 828.5pts
Total Army Points painted up: 1,865.5pts
